Sosej Yang Kontroversi
Sejak timbul kes sosej/hotdog yang menggunakan bahan-bahan haram, macam-macam citer aku dengar. Not to mention my inbox, which is bombarded with at least 1 e-mail concerning this halal-haram stuffs. Luckily we’re not a big fan of hot dogs, so tak jadi masalah la, Insya Allah…

Baby On Board
Beware of this girl. She may be small (born April 2004), but she’s got the power to captivate you with her charming smile and cherubic face. Meet the new ‘it’ grrl – Anis Humaira, affectionately known as Dik Yah. She’s the first baby of my BIL.
A mean eating machine, Dik Yah will eat virtually everything, even the spicy nasi minyak! Very different from Ikmal, who need to be chased around the house just to make sure he eats something. It’s considered a personal victory for me if he could finish the whole bowl of rice with chicken soup. Very fussy eater, that fella.
Dik Yah had started walking recently, which is quite a feat for a toddler her age. Ikmal didn’t start to walk until he’s 1 year plus. Aiyoh, dunno how my in-laws are going to cope with these 2 screaming machines in the house!

Of Nerds and Ligers
Aku suka Napoleon Dynamite (ND). Jangan tanya kenapa. If you have seen the film, you’ll get what I mean. Or not. Tanpa dibarisi nama-nama besar Hollywood, ND pertama kali ditayangkan di Festival Filem Sundance 2004. Filem arahan Jared Hess ini dibintangi oleh Jon Heder sebagai ND, seorang muka baru yang bakal menjadi icon bagi nerd-nerd sedunia.
Napoleon Dynamite merupakan pelajar Sekolah Tinggi Preston, Idaho (sebuah kawasan ‘desa’ Amerika), seorang nerd yang mempunyai imaginasi tinggi. Dia tinggal bersama neneknya yang rugged (bayangkan kd Lang berusia 55 tahun) dan abangya Kip (lakonan Aaron Ruell), si nerd kaki chatting di internet yang bercita-cita menjadi seorang cage-fighter. Kegemaran ND ialah melukis makhluk-makhluk fantasi, selain suka ‘menggoreng’ kengkawannya dengan kisah-kisah yang over the top. ('I went to Alaska with my uncle, hunting wolverines', katanya apabila ditanya tentang cuti musim panas). Napoleon sering dibuli, namun itu tidak menjadi masalah bagi ND. Dengan mata dan mulut yang separa tertutup, dia tidak kisah apa pandangan orang lain tentangnya.
5 perkara yang aku suka tentang filem Napoleon Dynamite:-
* Opening credits yang kreatif
Dibuat dengan stail MTV, aku rasa ini adalah salah satu opening credit yang paling cute pernah aku tengok.
* Skit Napoleon untuk kempen presiden Pedro
Wow! Babak ni betul-betul menukar Napoleon daripada seorang nerd kepada Geek God. Berlatarkan lagu dendangan Jamiroquai (salah satu artis favorit aku), Napoleon telah membuktikan yang dia juga mempunyai Skills yang boleh membuatkan gadis-gadis tertarik kepadanya (‘Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.’)
* Deb
Deb, salah satu watak perempuan yang prominen dalam ND, dilakonkan oleh Tina Majorino. Kali pertama aku melihatnya, aku rasa macam pernah melihat gadis comel ini suatu ketika dulu. Oh, dialah Alice dalam Alice in Wonderland (siri TV). Deb, seperti juga Napoleon, merupakan seorang outcast dan misfit.

My Sanctuary cum Adult Daycare
“Why do people who work in offices have pictures of their family on their desk facing them? Do they forget that they’re married? Do they say to themselves, “All right. Five o’clock. Time to hit the bars and pick up some hookers. Hold it a second, look at this picture. I got a wife and three kids. I completely forgot. I better get home.”

Let me introduce you to my workspace. My cubicle. It’s nothing, really, but this is the place I where I spend most of my time. About 9 -10 hours per day, 5-6 days per week. This is just how it looked like on a less busy day. On a REALLY busy day, you couldn’t even see the table! Anyway, I practice a clear desk policy, that is, before going home, I will make sure to keep it tidy and clean for the very next day.
As for the photos in the Ikea frames, yes, you’ve guessed it right. It’s Ikmal at 3 months, Ikmal at 6 months, Ikmal at 1 year, Ikmal bla, bla, bla. Some people just don’t get my obsession with Ikmal. One kakak said, “Wey, baru sorang anak, dah nak penuh dinding. Kalau ramai nanti tatau le camner.” Kalau lagi ramai, lagi banyak kot? Or not ?
Beside my monitor is my wedding photo. Shot in a bridal studio in Jalan Ipoh, KL. People see this photo and say, “Wah, Tak rupa macam kau lah.” Some said I looked like Abby Abadi, Erra Fazira or Mas Idayu. Apa-apalah…Yelah, haven’t they heard about this invention called ‘make-up’? It can turn even the ugliest witch into a beautiful queen. But I doubt it will work on Camilla Parker Bowles, though. ;-)
On top of the monitor is the Ham-Ham gang. Hamtaro, Oxnard, Cappy, Boss, Bijou dan ntah hapa nama diaorang, aku dah lupa. I got it at Sungei Wang Plaza for RM10 (for the whole set). And that LOTR pencil holder (in blue), is one of the many LOTR stuffs I got from The LOTR:ROTK contest.
This office floor (Finance Department) will be reshuffled soon, with some of the top management going into retirement. Till then, this is my castle. My fortress. My sanctuary, hehe. ¶ 3/19/2005 09:30:00 AM 2 comments

Working Mothers Are Redundant
Menghadapi Kenakalan Anak Berumur Dua Tahun
Soalan: Bagaimanakah untuk mendidik anak yang kurang daripada dua tahun agar dia boleh mendengar cakap dan tidak terlalu nakal. Bolehkah saya menggunakan percakapan yang keras bagi membentuknya? Kadang-kadang saya hilang sabar di atas karenah anak saya.

Jawapan: Masa umur dua tahun adalah masa yang sangat aktif bagi anak-anak, kerana pada usia ini pertumbuhan fizikal dan perkembangan mentalnya sedang meningkat. Fenomena ini pasti dihadapi oleh setiap ibu bapa yang memiliki anak yang normal. Pada usia ini sangatlah tidak wajar bagi ibu bapa menggunakan kata-kata yang kasar dan keras apatah lagi memukulnya. Mereka dalam usia ini sangat sensitif baik perasaan mahupun jasmani mereka.
Rasulullah SAW sangat menyayangi cucu-cucu baginda Hasan dan Husain. Bahkan ketika baginda sedang menjadi imam yang diikuti oleh jemaah Islam, kedua cucu baginda tersebut memanjat tengkuk baginda menyebabkan baginda melamakan waktu sujudnya demi menjaga kedudukan cucunya tersebut. Setelah selesai solat para sahabat bertanya tentang terlalu lamanya baginda sujud, apakah baginda menerima wahyu ketika itu. Rasulullah pun menjelaskan tentang peristiwa yang terjadi.
Pengajaran yang diberikan oleh Rasulullah ini menunjukkan bahawa pada usia kanak-kanak ini, ibu bapa hendaklah mendidik anak-anaknya dengan kasih sayang dan kelembutan. Kalaupun ingin mencegah kesilapan yang mereka lakukan maka cegahlah dengan kelembutan dan kasih sayang pula. Dalam masalah menjalankan perintah agama terhadap anak-anak ini Rasulullah menyatakan dengan tegas. Baginda menyuruh agar umat Islam menyuruh anak-anak yang berumur tujuh tahun mengerjakan solat, namun jika umur 10 tahun tidak mengerjakan solat makan pukullah mereka.
Ertinya keizinan memukul anak dalam pendidikan Rasulullah adalah ketika anak berumur 10 tahun, itupun jika mereka melanggar perintah Allah iaitu meninggal solat. Namun begitu pukulan yang dimaksudkan baginda bukanlah memukul dengan kemarahan tetapi memukul dengan unsur mendidik dan kasih sayang.
Adalah lebih baik ibu bapa menunjukkan akhlak yang mulia di depan anak-anak agar mereka dapat meniru keperibadian yang mulia tersebut. Setelah itu banyakanlah berdoa agar mereka mempunyai hati yang lemah lembut, budi pekerti yang mulai serta menjadi anak yang soleh.

Ikmal is down with flu. Batuk pun tak baik lagi. But what’s puzzling me is where the heck did he get all this energy to tear down the house? (and drive his parents crazy in the process). As a working mother, sometimes I feel really sad and inadequate because I can’t devote my time to watch him grow. To nurture his nature. There are so much things that I want to teach him, so many songs I want to sing to him, and by God, how I longed to teach him how to read the muqaddam (like what my own mother used to do).
I’m really tired these few days. Don’t even have the time to write anything. The workload is piling. Blame it on the auditors! Haha, for 4 and a half years aku sibuk mengaudit orang lain, sekarang baru aku tau camne perasaannya diaudit. Wow, I can’t believe they can be so annoying at times. Anyway, with the auditors gone, I thought that I could catch my breath again, but lo and behold! The management reports for the months of January and February tak siap lagi. Mati aku!
Anyway, life’s like that if you are in finance department, especially when you are dealing with the consolidation and management reporting. You’re dealing with numbers and yes, you can always finish that report at home if you want to. Can you imagine a doctor bringing home his work? A leper perhaps? That would crack me up, man! Anyway, even if I do bring them home, I would be too tired to even take them out from my bag. * sigh * Give me another cup of ginseng coffee with kacip Fatimah!

Being Amalina Bakri
Bloody brilliant! That's the only phrase that I can describe this fellow statemate of mine. Nur Amalina Che Bakri, a student of SMK Ulu Tiram Johor, scored 17A1's in the recent SPM. Wow, Add Math pun boleh score A1, man! Whatever you're havin', girl, I wanna piece of it. For my son, that is. btw, she reminds me very much of my cousin Alin (now a houseman in HKL).
I read somewhere that her mom said that it's all in the food. Meaning - No fast/junk food, No MSG and No carbonated drinks. Well, I gotta start listing the yes and no food for Ikmal. Alahai, nak suruh makan nasi pun susah...apa nak jadi la anak aku sorang nih...
What if, like the film Being John Malkovich, we can experience the life of a genius, even if for a mere 15 minutes. (Well, I wonder where would the dropping point be, considering that our highways are not THAT smooth- ouch my butt!). I would really want to know what it feels like to be her. To know what she thinks, how she feels (and how the heck did she studied!).

Dead (and Dried) Fish are Therapeutic
I slept at 4 a.m yesterday. Ikmal fell asleep at around 3.30. This is a usual routine on laundry nights. Twice to three times per week, aku akan menonton satu (atau dua) filem sambil membasuh baju. Last night I decided to watch Underground, a Serbian movie by Emir Kusturica. Awal-awal lagi Sayang dah tertidur, so tinggal aku dengan Ikmal aje. My beautiful washing machine (semi auto) is located outside our house, so the little devil had this tendency to see what his mama is doing, and will not go to sleep until I do..
I love doing laundry. Right from the sorting part, up to the part where you tuck them inside the chest of drawers, nicely folded, crease and all, is a work of art. Not to mention the part where I hang them to dry. Everything should be in a particular order. A masterpiece. I would bleach the white ones and personally scrub them clean. Nothing beats the sight of gleaming white shirts Sayang wears to office on Fridays. It’s a sense of satisfaction, one you wouldn’t get anywhere else. Pathetic? I don’t think so. More of a therapy, I would say. Another thing that I enjoyed doing is peeling those dried ikan bilis, the medium sized ones, sambil berzikir. It really soothes you. You can try it if you want. Trust me, it works.

Corn in a cup and three DVD's - RM12.20
Everyday I’ve got this dilemma. Where should I have my lunch today? What should I eat? Or should I just doze off in the privacy of my own cubicle? It’s ironic though… My office is situated in one of the most happening places in KL, yet, I still have these questions to answer. Especially on Fridays, where the lunch hour stretched from 12.15 pm to 2.45 pm...
Strategically sandwiched between Sungei Wang (my own private DVD haven), BB Plaza and Lot 10, this place is a blessing! It’s convenient, alive and it’s got all kinds of everything. Just name it. Ah Lians, you want tattoos on your cleavage to impress that dude you’re having for lunch? They have it here. You’re broke and you just want to keep gastric at bay? Strategically sandwiched between Sungei Wang (my own private DVD haven), BB Plaza and Lot 10, this place is a blessing! It’s convenient, alive and it’s got all kinds of everything. Just name it. Hey Jude !
I love Jude Law. There, I’ve said it. Is it because of his gorgeous eyes? His unkempt hair? Or is it his cockney accent? I don’t know. I never really thought about it. Aku dah lama notice mamat ni, tapi tak pernah minat in a serious manner, until I lay my hands on Closer. Jude as Daniel is awesome! So far, I’ve seen him in I Heart Huckabees, Alfie, A.I and Gatacca. Him as Alfie? Gosh, forget about the plot, script, settings whatsoever. A sight of Alfie Elkins on his scooter, smiling… heaven…(Damn you Sienna Miller, you lucky devil!) And Jude, thank you for being an actor, for now we can share you with the rest of the world...

Si Kecil Yang Suka Menggigit
My finger hurts like hell, throbbing, as I type my first entry. Sakit giler ! Occupational hazard of being a mother. Semuanya angkara si kecil Ikmal Haniff. Ikmal baru 2 tahun 4 bulan, but he's quite tall for a toddler his age. Maybe sebab susu dia (susu mahal, beb, plus DHA, ARA, SA, 4 tin sebulan!) or sebab Mama dia memang dah tinggi. Nakal? Of course! Anak mana yang tak nakal. This is the 21st century la. Bukan budak zaman 60an.
This son of mine got a penchant of putting things in his mouth- lint, tyres of his small cars, his dad's Marlboro Lights (I have banned cigarettes in the house since that day) dan hari tu, aku jumpa 50 sen dalam mulut dia (the coin, not In Da Club rapper tu). Pantang leka, ada je something inside his mouth. And it's very difficult to make him open up. If you are lucky, you can get your fingers out unscathed. But yesterday, I was caught off-guard. God knows how painful it was. Gigit dengan gigi geraham pulak tu...
