Semalam masa tengah browse thru my friends page kat LJ, secara tak sengaja aku terrrrrbaca spoilers untuk Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! Alamak!!!! Memang takleh nak avoid, sebab bebudak gila ni tulis komen guna font size 26 dan ada tu, siap ada blinking lagi! Hampeh. Sekarang aku dah tau siapa mati (some girl from Gryffindor ~ bukan Ginny, bukan Tonks, bukan Angelina Johnson, *arrrggghh! Tensionnya!!!* and a teacher too ~ bukan tenaga pengajar Care for Magical Creatures, bukan Herbalogist, bukan Transfiguration, bukan!!!!!!!!!!) dan siapa akan terus hidup *cough*horses*cough*.
*Sobbed*. Is this the end, JK Rowling ? :( Pray tell me because I can’t see where you’re heading to.
The Lost Room : HALP!
My download finished after almost one week! Dan semalam, aku menonton mini-siri ni secara marathon (semuanya ada tiga episod, setiap episod lebih kurang satu jam setengah). Dan hell, aku tak pernah rasa se-excited ni! Especially sekarang di mana semua siri kegemaran aku tengah hiatus (Heroes) dan ada yang dalam proses penggambaran (Dexter), so it’s very refreshing to see something along the same genre. And thanks a lot to Gordon for recommending this series to me :)
So, siri ni pasal apa?
Hmm… kalau Heroes berkisar tentang ordinary PEOPLE with extraordinary abilities, TLR pula adalah kisah objek2 biasa yang mempunyai kuasa luar biasa. Contohnya, sikat rambut yang boleh menghentikan masa selama beberapa saat, tiket bas yang boleh menghantar manusia (secara teleport) ke Hell (well, not technically hell, tapi sebuah kawasan berhampiran New Mexico) atau pen yang boleh mengeluarkan kuasa mikrowave. Kisahnya, tentang seorang detektif, Joe Miller (lakonan Peter Krause), yang secara tak sengaja terjumpa sebatang kunci ajaib yang mana si pemilik dapat pergi ke mana sahaja yang dia mahu, hanya dengan membuka sebarang pintu dengan kunci tersebut. Dan kunci itu juga boleh membuka sebuah bilik motel yang agak seedy dan misteri, di mana secara nyata, bilik ini tidak wujud (we’re talking about alternate universe and somewhat like time travel here), dan berbagai peristiwa pelik berlaku dalam bilik tersebut. Pada suatu hari, anak perempuan Joe, secara tidak sengaja telah termasuk ke dalam bilik ni dan hilang, dan Joe terpaksa membongkar rahsia di sebalik bilik rahsia ini dan barang2 lain yang menjadi rebutan antara sect2 yang mahukannya untuk tujuan2 tertentu (The Collectors, The Legion dan The Order of the Reunification). Haha! Macam tau2 je aku suka benda2 gini! (I mean, underground sects macam dalam The DaVinci Code, where we’re brought into the world of The Priory of Psion, the Illuminati, and such).
My dear readers, tell me if you’ve watched this series, so that we can have a discussion about the plot, the characters and such. Tak best la kalau aku dok syok sendiri sensorang :P
And, oh, if I were a character from this series, I’d choose to be Suzi Kang (played by the funny lady, Margaret Cho), because she makes a lot of dough just by selling information to those who seeks to find the Objects.

I mean, with two of the main characters dead, how are supposed to enjoy the show then? And River is no longer 17. Kaylee dan Simon dah meluahkan perasaan masing2. Habis tu, apa lagi yang tinggal untuk Mal dan krew2 nya? Inara? Hmmm...

Serenity - siri komik la pulak...
Jumaat lepas, sewaktu dalam perjalanan melawat seorg staff yg menghidapi kanser di HKL, aku ternampak benda ni di tingkap cermin sebuah kedai komik/ majalah lama di sini. Dgn berkobar2nya, sebelum masuk ofis lepas lunch hour hari tu, aku beli semua sekali. (Lame gila, aku ingatkan mesti mahal, sbb dah lama aku tak beli komik2 camni. The last one aku baca, rasanya ialah Ghost Rider). Aku tahu ada 9 covers available utk siri ni, tp yg ada kat sini cuma Mal (#1), Kaylee (#2) dan Simon (#3). Shiny!
Dalam this 3-parter dari Dark Horse Comics, kita dpt tahu apa terjadi pada dua pegawai Alliance ‘Two by two, hands of Blue’ yg sangat ditakuti oleh River Tam, dalam episod terakhir siri Firefly- Objects In Space, dan memberi mukadimah kepada the Big Damn Movie (nickname utk filem Serenity di message2 board yg berkaitan), ttg bagaimana The Operative boleh ditugaskan mencari kedua beradik Tam ni. Dan bagaimana Shepherd Book dan Inara boleh end up kat the respective planets, dan tidak bersama2 lagi di atas kapal Serenity.

Ingat lagi Agent Dobson yg ditembak Mal dan mayatnya dicampak di Whitefall? (Firefly Episode Serenity part 2). Well, beliau masih hidup (walaupun cacat sedikit), dan bersumpah akan memburu Mal hingga ke lubang cacing. Juga pengenalan kepada Fanty & Mingo, si kembar ‘cantik’ dalam Serenity.
Highlight – The death of the Hands of Blue. Kinda reminds me of Crow’s demise (henchman Adelai Niska dalam The Train Job).
Thumbs down – I personally think that Mal’s hair can be longer.

I'm a (Malay) woman, hear me roar !!!
“They want to be assertive and successful but, at the same time, there are cultural constraints,” she told a forum, Malay Women’s Perception of Progress, here yesterday to discuss the findings of the survey. “They feel if they’re doing too much or being too aggressive, their feminine side will be lost. “Then, there is the fact that when you’re too successful, you may have to sacrifice or neglect your family in the process of getting to the top.”
The survey, which was sponsored by a leading moisturiser brand, found only 35% of the respondents felt they had achieved their aspirations. While progress and aspirations are linked, the obstacles they face are lack of opportunities, money and qualifications. The survey also found that there was still a glass ceiling for women at the workplace and, generally, women preferred having women bosses. Dr Noraini said Malay women were expected to be a pillar of strength as a mother, yet remain feminine and subservient as a wife.
This expectation is more predominant among women in rural areas than among their urban counter-parts. The study shows women in the 31 to 45 age group to be the least happy and optimistic, as they are overwhelmed by the need to juggle career and family, or just being a homemaker.

- spouse yg understanding. Yg memahami kehendak dan keperluan, terutama yg sama2 bekerja, dan sama2 penat.
- an understanding family, terutama mertua, ipar duai.
- kerjaya yg menjamin masa depan, dgn benefit2 yg menarik. (Medical RM680 p.a, dental RM250 p.a, pada aku, Alhamdulillah, is more than enough…)
- friends. Yang boleh mendengar dan berbicara. Walaupun setakat di paparan komputer.
- a good (and healthy) sex life. Long live Vitalsexuals!
- spare time for me, myself and I.
Gelagat mamaikmal ketika nonton.
Anyway, I would be much HAPPIER if I have the following…
- Malcolm Reynolds or Jayne Cobb or Simon Tam. Preferebly Mal. *right here *. Nekkid. (Acah je. Jgn marah ye sayang). Oklah, Jayne’s vintage shirts (cool gila).
- Ikea furniture^ for my house.
- Keberanian utk memegang stereng dan drive!
- Tukang masak, tukang basuh baju, tukang gosok, tukang urut, tukang karut, oopss…
- Control over the fuel prices.
- Paris Hilton’s wealth.
- Halal gourmet chocolate

- Mal to hook up with Inara, instead of that beyotch Nandi.

Phew, akhirnya!
Selepas berminggu2 aku menunggu bekalan tiba, akhirnya, semlm, DVD boxset Firefly dah ada dalam tangan. Tima kasih pd pembekal setia aku , Yap (rasanya bukan nama sebenar), yg sudi merezabkan benda ni utk aku, walaupun kekdg kelam kabut disergah oleh pegawai2 penguatkuasa. (For some reason, I dunno why this lengchai panggil aku “Johnny”, walaupun aku takde langsung iras2 mcm Johnny Depp, Johnny Hates Jazz mahupun Johnny Bikin Filem.) Baru jek habih tgk satu CD, phew, tak sabar nak tgk lagi malam ni!!!
* Aku beli HYPE sbb mak aku suka JR. Katanya mcm rupa Ikmal, walaupun mendpt bantahan keras drp Mak Ngah aku (“Mana ada ? Cucu kau tu keriting !”). Lgpun, ada artikel2 ttg V for Vendetta (yes, Nazim, aku akan tonton filem ni. For Stephen Rea. :-) , ada JRM (ooohhh, that gorgeous lips!!!) dan (ahem) poster Mawi World.
Aku cukup tak suka kalo org dok sibuk tanya - "Eh, kakak pun baca Hype?" Selamba jek aku jawab kat budak jaga Kiosk tuh - "Sukati aku lah". Bak kata Baz Luhrman dalam lagunya " Don't read beauty magazines- they will only make you feel ugly".
Something from the resident Harry Potter nit-picker, though. The update on the latest Harry Potter movie- the actress’s name is Imelda Staunton (bukan Vera Drake- itu karakter dia), who will be playing the ultimate beyotch in the form of a DADA teacher- Prof. Dolores Umbridge.

What else can I say but WOWOWOWOW!!! Joss Whedon is my new sci-fi king! Ok, it may sound cheesy and fan-girlish-ish, but this movie is THE best thing since George Lucas’s first three Star Wars movies. Walaupun sfx-nya lebih kurang tahap Star Wars masa bebaru kuar dulu. (remember, this was approx. 29 years ago), tapi, itulah yg membuat Serenity lebih mengancam! And feels very human. (Unless you’re Frank Martin, Mal showed us that real men do tremble when he got punched.)
When critics and film reviewers called Malcolm ‘Mal’ Reynolds (played by Canadian Nathan Fillion) the new Han Solo, I was a bit skeptic. Until I saw this film, which truly reminds me why I fall in love with Harisson Ford’s charming rogue in the first place (even though, at 63, he’s as ‘young’ as my father). At least Mal has a band of loyal (albeit motley) crew, and Mr Solo, on the other hand, has only got Chewy as a companion (huuurrrrnngh, hurrnnngggh, everyday, how to tahan, man?)
I also loved the fact that there’s a married couple on board, i.e Wash and Zoe. So lovable, addressing each other with honey and baby. Entah mengapa pasangan seluloid lebih menarik jika mereka married couples, e.g Mr & Mrs Smith, Dennis Quaid & Kathleen Turner dalam Undercover Blues, pasangan Cortez dalam Spy Kids…damn, they look dashing! And more interesting! Aku suka bagaimana Zoe me-maintain her composure ketika sesuatu yg buruk terjadi pd hubby-nya (mengingatkan aku kpd Bree van De Camp dalam Desperate Housewives- it really took some time for reality to sink in…)
The villain, aptly named The Operative, is a cold(hearted) Chiwetel Ejiofor (ah, bila kau dah feymes, orang akan ingat nama kau walau sesusah mana pun). Damn, Lola! (Tak sabar aku nak tgk dia dlm Kinky Boots!).
My fave bits:
“I swallowed a bug.” River Tam (Summer Glau, dgn muka stoned.)
Damn, this film is so full of funny lines, aku takleh nak tahan gelak !

New flavour of the moment : Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Esp. bila baru bangun tidur, hehe ;-)
The whole movie is so fun to watch. In fact, lepas 2-3 kali tgk pun aku takkan bosan. Well done, Mr Whedon ! And kudos to the brilliant cast!
